Feeling tired and overwhelmed? Is your house a cluttered mess? Here are some quick & easy things to do every day to keep a clean and organized home, plus they only take a few minutes and require no special tools or gadgets!
MAKE THE BED
Try to make your bed as soon as you get up. Even if you get nothing else done during the day, making the bed is a simple way to help keep the room tidy. Plus a made bed is much more inviting to get into at the end of the day.
WIPE DOWN THE BATHROOM
As soon as you have taken a shower and dressed for the day, do a very quick bathroom wipe down. Clean off the countertop by putting away all of your personal products. Wipe around the sink to remove any water rings, makeup, or loose hair. Quickly spray the shower down with a daily shower cleaner and use a squeegee to remove excess water. Do a quick wipe of the floor too with an old bathroom towel. This takes no more than a few minutes to do this, but it really helps keep the bathroom clean until you get around to doing your weekly cleaning.
ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY WASHED, FOLDED, AND PUT AWAY
Laundry seems to multiply around the house and if you let a day go by without doing at least one load of laundry, the clothing piles can quickly add up and seem unmanageable! Your main rule should be to always do at least one load a day, especially if you have a large family. Take the time to fold and put away the laundry too. If not, you’ll have piles of clean clothes lying around the house.
KEEP THE KITCHEN COUNTERS CLEAN
Dishes should either get washed or placed in the dishwasher as soon as possible. Also try to keep the counters clear of unnecessary clutter throughout the day. Clean while cooking so you don’t have a huge mess waiting after meal time.
TIDY UP BEDROOMS IN THE MORNING AND IN THE EVENING
Make the bed, put away your night clothes and clean off the nightstand of water glasses or books. Teach kids to pick up their room too. They love to “throw” their clothes in the hamper and shake the empty trash bin.
ARRANGE THE COUCH PILLOWS
Try to keep the couch pillows organized and neat so that way it at least gives the illusion of a neat living room.
HOUSE CLUTTER SWEEP THROUGH
Once the kids are in bed and before you relax for the evening, do a quick house sweep through. Put away any remaining toys that need to be picked up along with any clothing. Wash bottles and clean the kitchen counter of anything left out.
PLAN FOR TOMORROW
Take a few minutes and look at your calendar and write out a basic plan for the day. Also write down anything else that you want to do or need to remember not necessarily for the next day, but for the future. This way you can relax knowing that you have thought through your day and made a to-do list.
LAY OUT BREAKFAST DISHES
Lay out the breakfast dishes on the kitchen counter the night before! It just helps to prepare for the early morning. Don’t lay out any food, just the dishes, toaster, blender, or whatever appliance you need to prepare breakfast.
Spend the last 30 minutes to an hour of your day reading. It helps you relax and fall asleep. A good night’s rest will leave you fresh and ready to tackle your tasks for the day.
You may not get around to doing any real deep cleaning, but these things help keep your home organized, tidy, and clutter free.
